Stand as a Candidate
What does standing as a candidate mean?
By registering as a candidate with MK Greens, you are expressing your interest in standing for election on behalf of the Milton Keynes Green Party. This is an important and valued commitment — candidates are the public face of our party in their ward.
What we'll ask of you
The main requirement is that you sign the official nomination forms to appear on the ballot. That's it — simply having a Green candidate on the ballot gives residents in your ward the option to vote Green, which helps grow our presence across Milton Keynes.
If elected
If you are elected as a councillor, the main commitment is attending Full Council meetings, which are held around 9 times per year. Other local Green councillors can cover most other council duties on your behalf, so the day-to-day burden is manageable.
You wouldn't be on your own — the Green Party provides guidance and resources for new councillors both locally and through the Association of Green Councillors, which supports elected Greens across the country.
Which ward will I stand in?
We prefer to stand candidates in the ward they live in, but you can stand anywhere in Milton Keynes. If we have too many candidates in one ward and not enough in another, we may ask whether you'd be willing to stand elsewhere. The Candidate Selection Team will discuss this with you before any ward is confirmed.
Am I eligible?
To stand as a local councillor in England you must:
